Genesis

- Betwixt: Phase I - Poem X -

I saw him once in a golden light,

A laugh that made the wrongs feel right

A kiss to the neck and the pit would disappear,

In those times, he felt so near

He’d write to calm the storms inside,

I watched him grow, I watched him hide

And every time he touched my skin,

I swore I’d let him in

“Come back,” I whispered to the air,

From tangled sheets and barren cares

Do the things you said you’d do,

Just don’t forget what’s waiting for you

Can we love like we used to then?

When every kiss was like oxygen

Even though you're now far and low,

The roots we made are still there to grow

I don’t believe in fate or signs,

But I believe your soul has touched mine

My mother said I’ve lost my way,

But you were my Genesis day

You were the sun of my starting aches,

The kind of dream I’ve never faked

And though you’re gone to fix your fire,

You still consume me with desire

I sleep to meet you in some dreams,

Where nothing’s torn at every seam

Where fingers find their rightful place,

And the silence speaks of your embrace

How you look and how you smile,

You're the boy who made it all worthwhile

I tried to fill your space with air,

But nothing else compares

We laughed at things we didn’t know,

We danced in rooms we’d soon outgrow

You said you’d leave and then come back,

Does love like this survive some cracks?

Like the spilled coffee on my rug from last year,

I pray you're still there, my Genesis, please begin again

And until you do, I’ll sit and write,

The stories of our lived-through light
