Could’ve Been You
- Rift: Part I - Poem VI -
I never meant to come off cold,
But you know how you could be sometimes
I had my reasons too,
If I should leave or try and redraw my boundary lines
Before I knew it, you packed your bags and left,
Looking back, though, I never thought you’d run
How you discarded me like last week’s trash,
But knowing what I know now, it’s all you’ve ever done
In the end, though,
I wish we could’ve worked it out,
Instead, you wanted to save clout,
Just left without a doubt,
And took all my life and left me in a drought,
If we had just worked it out,
It could’ve been you
It’s not that our love had lost its spark,
You made up lies to cover up what you did
You lied and hid behind many backs,
Whenever you run, your secrets will always find where you hid
On the night when you broke the news to me,
Said you were scared like I was coming to kill you
I wanted to talk, but you wanted space,
Only one of us knew
In the end, though,
I wish we could’ve worked it out,
You never even let me bout,
Searched a new path like a scout,
And took all my love and never made it out,
If we had just worked it out,
It could’ve been you
