I Don’t Know What To Say
- Rift: Part II - Poem X -
I wish I could tell you the weight I bear,
But the words slip away when I open my mouth
Have you found someone gentle, someone in prayer?
While I stand here lost, heading nowhere but south
Do you speak of me kindly, or bury the past?
Do your friends nod along with a smile in disguise?
I thought I could love you, but I couldn’t last,
Too young in my heart, too afraid of your eyes
You’re warm as the sun on a cold autumn day,
You’re the place I could run to when shadows would grow
But I packed up my silence and just walked away,
Not ready to tell you the things you should know
I’m sorry I left when your heart asked me near,
But sorry feels small in the mouth of a boy
I wish I could speak, but my courage is fear,
And my love was fragile, an unfinished toy
I don’t know what to say,
Now that I’ve broken your heart,
And walked the other way
