Star-Crossed
- Rift: Part II - Poem II -
Before you, my heart was a restless tide,
A carousel spinning, nowhere to hide
Faces blurred in a fleeting stream,
Love was a shadow, not something I’d dream
You came like a dawn I didn’t deserve,
Steady and patient, your hand held my curve
You’d rather die than be anything but my man,
Yet I kept on drifting, without a plan
I never meant to hurt you, but somehow I managed to,
Shattering our trust, you thought it was the truth
My words grew sharp, my silence cold,
And our love’s bright flame burned out in the hold
The day I left, you watched me fade,
A soul reborn in the life you made
Time may forget you, but I won’t,
Not for the nights I could have, but don’t
Now you walk in a world without my name,
Free from the weight of my endless love game
And I live in the ruins of what we crossed,
Counting the lives I’ve already lost
Before the break, I was blind to the cost,
After, I knew exactly what I lost
We were star-crossed, but you found the sky,
And I’m grounded here, still asking why
