Stargazing

- Rift: Part I - Poem II -

Do you recall when we were happy together?

I do

Do you?

You said forever, and I completely bought it,

Then pulled the rug and walked away

I braced for the blame and expected spite,

But all of it was silent in the night of gray

Nothing happened in the way I wanted,

Every goddamn place in this town reminds me of you

We burned like summer, brief and sublime,

Was any of it true?

Do you remember when we went stargazing together?

I don’t

But do you still want to?

I don’t want closure, I don’t want a cure,

Each moment without you feels so awful

I’ve kept all your things that we shared,

Every view becomes a mirror pointing to you

But nothing happened in the way I wanted,

Every store in this age says your name

When I pass by others who speak it nonchalantly,

It sends a shock through me

Do you remember when we went stargazing together?

I don’t

Can we still, though?
