There Will Never Be Another One

- Rift: Part II - Poem XI -

I hear your laughter drift through the night,

With someone new who treats you right

He screens his films, he trades his cards,

A Fort Worth boy who heals your scars

I watch your glow in his embrace,

And every smile rewinds my headspace

The way I hurt you, the words I threw,

Are the chains I forged between me and you

I swore I’d stay, but I walked away,

I let my pride decide the day

You gave me love I couldn’t keep,

I left you lonely, I made you weep

Now in his arms you’ve found the care,

A gentle voice that I can’t share

I ache to know I’m not the one,

The damage is there; what’s done is done

But I can’t resent the life you had to choose,

It’s only me who made us lose

No rival stole what I destroyed,

I filled our unbreakable heaven with the void

And yet at night when silence calls,

Your ghost still lingers in my halls

The truth resounds when all is said,

I miss our life I left for dead

So let him hold you, let him stay,

He gives you love in brighter ways

But deep inside, I know something true,

There will never be another you

No matter how my stories run,

There will never be another one
