Whatever You Want
- Betwixt: Phase II - Poem I -
My castle fell quite swift,
As soon as I gave you a one-month gift
I came unarmed to fate’s cruel fight,
But here I stand, bathed in your moonlight
They stole my crown, my throne, and grace,
But no one could find our secret hiding place
The whispers, they clamor and glamour loud,
I’m not bothered by the crowd
When you walk with your lowered gaze,
It makes my blood rush to a lover’s haze
Your dark hair and brown eyes,
Make me lovestruck with teenage surprise
We can call it nothing—we can call it fate,
Call it a dream or a love too late
Call it wandering sideways in a haunt,
Call it whatever you want, we don’t gotta flaunt
My garden bloomed, then thorned with pain,
But some of you will always remain
The chain of my first initial I still got,
Along with the rings and Chapstick, you forgot
Let others chase their fleeting flings,
The ones with fake jewelry and rings
I’d rather build a tent from softened sheets,
And kiss you under crooked streets
We played our parts, jesters and kings,
But this love made me grow hidden wings
And though I’ve burned some bridges this time,
Yours stood, the only thing that’s ever been mine
We can call it anything—we can be mates,
Call it a dream or a memory at the gate
Call it a different type of font,
Call it whatever you want
So call it freedom, call it flight,
Babe, please come back, I’ve only done you right
We’ll make a home of candle smoke,
And laugh until our vices broke
I want no house, no golden ring,
No laws to cherish, no binding name
Just write your truth across my skin,
And let the adult stuff stay out, not in
Recall the hush of autumn air,
When I proposed a love affair
“You’re the only thing I did right,”
“Can you stay with me, just for tonight?”
Call it drifting, call it art,
It’s always been you from the start
Call it a map I drew to my heart,
When shopping at the old Kroger mart
Call it what you want, my love,
Whatever you want, nothing will change my love
